What this website collects

If you apply for the private beta, we collect the information you enter in the application form, such as your name, email address, author/pen name, computer type and information about your ebook workflow. We use it to assess beta applications, contact selected testers, manage the beta and improve Winks.

Website form provider

The public website is hosted on Netlify and uses Netlify Forms to receive beta applications. This means form submissions are processed and stored through Netlify's infrastructure as part of delivering the form service.

What the local Winks beta stores

The downloadable private beta currently runs locally on the tester's own computer. Recipient names/emails entered into Wink Protect are stored in that computer's local Winks database. The EPUB itself receives an opaque signed fingerprint rather than the recipient's name or email. The local software does not currently upload those EPUBs or recipient issue records to Winks Watermarks servers.

Why we use the information

We use beta application and correspondence details to take steps requested by you before providing beta access, to administer the testing relationship, to improve the product, and where necessary to protect the security and integrity of the beta.

How long we keep it

We keep beta application information only while it is useful for running or following up the beta and for a reasonable period afterwards. You can ask us to delete your application information unless we have a legal reason to retain particular records.

Sharing

We do not sell beta applicant information. We may use service providers necessary to run the website and email, such as Netlify for website/forms and Namecheap Private Email for business email.

Your choices and rights

You can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask for corrections, request deletion where applicable, object to certain uses or ask for restriction. Contact hello@winkswatermarks.com. UK residents may also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Changes

Winks is an early-stage product. This notice will be updated before any hosted version changes how EPUBs or recipient issue data are processed.

This is an early-stage privacy notice for the private beta and should be reviewed again before a wider commercial launch.
